a true holy grail from the cloud one catalog, dont let my rainbow pass me by is the third of a string of titles on golden flamingo produced by the p&p duo of patrick adams and peter brown and featuring vocals from guardian angel singer margot williams. similar to previous cloud ones productions, this record had all the elements of a patrick adams classic, but with vocal arrangements that foreshadowed the work he would do with inner life and jocelyn brown at salsoul. perhaps not so much of a concidence then that margot williams would provide backing vocals on inner lifes second and final album. even though it was originally released in 1981, dont let my rainbow pass me by is still championed by high-profile deejays today. over the years, its been notably sampled in basement jaxxs romeo and covered by todd terje and prins thomas in reinbagan as a dub-disco cut. available for the first time since its original release, our only piece of advise is to don’t let this classic pass you by.

if youre familiar with public release’s sibling, face, a series of parties, you’ll already know that jee day, né dennis mcnany, has been in the bay area label’s orbit for some time as half of the dfa act museum of love, he joined the inner circle years ago. here, with amot herga laxy, he makes his bold debut on public release itself. the single begins with “crocodile tears,” an abstract, impressionistic tapestry of african rhythms, meditative synth washes, vangelis-esque horns and pads. it recedes and jee day plunges deeper into the jungle with communication masterbation, a propulsive number built around a psychedelic, droney bass that’s wrapped with gritty, distorted effects and layers of topline keyboard licks stacked high. a raw club track cut from transcendentalist cloth thatll lift you off the dance floor. the b-side is a dub of communication masterbation, with an emphasis being placed on pulling out, unraveling, extending the rhythmic elements and emphasizing the electronic veil the piece is shrouded in. a trancey, menacing sprawl that could be an extended sonic youth live jam if they swapped their stringed instruments for roland and korg gear and dusted the whole thing in an unknown psychoactive slime.

2018 repress . since launching last summer, rasta vibez has carved a niche for itself among the drum and bass community for those seeking out some dub and reggae flecked jungle cuts for the dance. now, after a successful series of 10 inch hand stamped records, mystic pulse kicks off a new 12 inch series pushing a more serious and distinguished sound with style. both sides start off halftime but effectively evolve into breakbeat chaos, which has already proven to shake up the dancefloor big time. in short a must have for all ragga muffin junglists!

the fourth release on trevor jacksons pre- label is by skull. a visceral journey into experimental noise and no wave avant grade beatscapes the last skull release snapz appeared on jacksons own output recordings label in 1999. a seminal collection of tracks that had previously featured on the first two legendary mo wax headz compilations (also featuring autechre, beastie boys, air, and dj shadow) as well as tracks that had also appeared on kevin the bug martins notorious macro dub infection albums during the mid 90s. reactionary sonic statements aimed at the coffee table world of trip hop, fuelled by his dissatisfaction and dissillustionment with hip hop of the time, trevor pushed himself into uncomfortable and far more extreme areas than he had before, areas he felt unable to explore with his underdog productions, which were mainly being utilised for major label remixes at the time. influenced as much by the industrial pioneers, post punk and new wave of the past as the burgeoning post rock scene in the mid 90s, this new set of previously unreleased recordings originally produced between 1996-2000 are equally as intense and visceral as the early releases. dusty samples, raw beats, tape loops, and primitive effects combine to sound as relevant now as when they were initially created.

will saul and tee mango continue the primitive trust ep series with their third release. little love ep is a blissful 3 track package featuring a floorplan remix. little love builds warm harmonies driven by syncopated bass grooves whilst tee mangos dub of tejon heads for the sun with radiant, shuffling chords. for the remix, floorplan delivers unrestrained rapture on a peak time roller full of cathartic vocal bursts.

amsterdam label taped artifact has lined up an ep from merv aka brian oldenborg and jan christiansen. after the re-melted reissue on styrax in 2015, this is the pairs third new ep in three years since coming back after first making music back in the mid nineties. their warm dub and techno style is still very much fresh and arresting. blueprint opens the ep with eight enthralling minutes of percolating drums and shuffling hi hats. frosty yet warm, it’s a cavernous affair with a hypnotic riffs sucking you in over and over. shine is more upright techno, but the rock solid kicks are still draped with rippling, static coated chords that ripple out in all directions. rotundum closes things out with synth waves gently breaking over hunched drums that build the pressure. it’s tense and engaging while remaining thoroughly atmospheric.

nandu returns for his 2nd release on connected with another unique pair of tracks, the first an african influenced song with the mesmerising vocals of oluhle, the second a 909 style acid dark dancefloor workout. 1. nandu & oluhle - umfazi omuhle (original mix)- a gentle almost cautious arrangement building slowly and ethereally with a beautiful selection of sounds and an african influenced nandu rythm with shakers and claves providing an original feel and leaving space for oluhle’s moving vocals. 2. nandu – another jam (another acid dub)- a more aggressive, upfront side from nandu. for the intense spot of the night with twisted groove of claps and percussion, heavier in the lows with a proper 909 kickdrum with the acid line coming in half way through..... hot.

with every album project comes a proper remix pack. marco bailey has invited some of his most respected colleagues in modern day techno to come up with an interpretation of two of temper’s toughest cuts.
“planet mad” is being reworked by marcel fengler and andre kronert. fengler’s rework is an adventurous take on the original and has a strong emphasis on rhythm. without loosing with the original idea, fengler builds the rhythm section into a wash of bold drums and rich percussion. andre kronert’s take on “planet mad” pushes the track s idea into a different direction. kronert yet again proves to be a craftsman when it comes to textures and builds. while the recognizable bass sound of the original keeps thumping, atypical bits of fx are added to build on an unusual but very soothing atmosphere.
for the b side, “naga” is being reshaped by croatian master of electronics petar dundov and rotterdam based fast riser, koen hoets. petar dundov comes up with an esoteric take on “naga”. whilst respecting the form of the original, dundov goes one notch deeper with his wide array dub elements and feral hat sounds. koen hoets delivers a more demure take on “naga”. whilst the rhythm section might not be suitable for all club situations, this is adventurous techno at its best. noteworthy fx and soul touching strings that float throughout.

louie vega re-ignites the disco classic “dance (disco heat)” by sylvester grammy awarding winning producer & 5 time grammy nominated louie vega continues to send dance floors into a peak hour frenzy with his remixes of disco classics on nervous records. the inspiration to delve into masters from this era began when he started remixing masters from the sam records catalogue, which is owned by nervous records, and with whom louie has a long history going back to nervous early 90’s origins. louie is that unique producer who has had success in multiple genres of music including house, r&b, & freestyle and he has brought that talent to help re-ignite new york disco classics like vicky d’s -this beat is mine- and convertion’s -let’s do it- featuring leroy burgess, as well as charting topping disco hits from john davis & the monster orchestra -bourgie bourgie- & -up jumped the devil-. this time, louie put his focus on a track outside of the sam records catalogue, and one that was an international disco hit that also crossed over to becoming a 1978 pop hit, namely sylvester / dance (disco heat). using elements from the 1978 version and combining them with his own original musical and percussion contributions, along with new vocal performances from renowned singer cindy mizelle, louie has refashioned and reignited this 39 year-old production into a 2018 club anthem.
